Overview
Camping is one of the most memorable parts of Cub Scouting. Pack 232 runs at least one overnight campout per year (typically winter camping) and may run additional campouts, especially for Webelos and Arrow of Light dens.
BALOO Requirement
At least one adult on any pack overnight campout must have completed BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation).
BALOO is an in-person training offered by Twin Rivers Council. The Program Chair and/or Cubmaster should ensure sufficient BALOO-trained adults are available.
Current BALOO-trained adults: (update as known — check with Committee Chair)

Types of Pack Camping
Pack Overnighter (Cabin or Campsite)
A full-pack overnight event, typically in winter. All Scout families are welcome.
Planning timeline:
- 4–6 months out: Reserve cabin or campsite (popular sites book quickly)
- 2–3 months out: Confirm program, food, and transportation plans
- 1 month out: Send registration to families; collect fees through WooCommerce
- 2 weeks out: Confirm headcount; finalize food order and supplies
- 1 week out: Send packing list and logistics to families; confirm consent forms
Webelos/AOL Den Campout
Webelos and Arrow of Light dens often do their own den campout in addition to the pack campout. The den leader coordinates with the Program Chair for support and safety compliance.
Camping Safety
- Two-deep leadership: Two registered adults at all times
- BALOO: Required on any pack overnight
- Health forms: Bring all participating Scouts’ and adults’ health forms
- First aid: Designate a first aid lead; bring a first aid kit
- Safe Swim Defense: Required for any swimming activity at camp
- No liquid fuels: Propane is fine; liquid fuel (Coleman fuel, etc.) is not permitted at Cub Scout events
- Fireworks prohibited: BSA prohibits fireworks at all Scouting events
- Buddy system: Scouts always stay with a buddy
BSA Pack Overnighter Site Approval Form
Some council sites may require a Pack Overnighter Site Approval Form. Check with Twin Rivers Council whether the specific site requires this.
