Assistant Den Leader

Role Summary

The Assistant Den Leader supports the den leader in all aspects of running the den and can lead den meetings when the den leader is absent. Every den should have an assistant den leader to ensure continuity and two-deep leadership at all meetings and activities.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist the den leader in planning and conducting den meetings
  • Step in to lead den meetings when the den leader is unavailable
  • Help maintain two-deep leadership at all den activities
  • Support advancement tracking and help Scouts complete requirements
  • Help manage den communications with families
  • Attend pack meetings with the den
  • Participate in the annual program planning conference
  • Help with den logistics: meeting space setup, supplies, snacks

Requirements

  • Age: 18 years or older (21+ if the pack’s only assistant den leader)
  • Registration: Registered as an adult leader of BSA; current with YPT
  • Required Training:
    • Youth Protection Training (YPT) — renew every 2 years
    • Den Leader Position-Specific Training (CS19) — online at my.Scouting.org
  • Access: Scoutbook access as Assistant Den Leader for the den
