BSA Swim Test Opportunity

Parents,

Troop 75 is conducting the BSA swim test on Monday evening at the YMCA. If you or your scout would like to take the test please see the information below.

For those that are unfamiliar with the BSA swim test it is an optional test that can be completed annually. Completion of the test enables one to participate in swimming and boating activities. For the Cubs it really only comes into play at summer camp.

Troop 75 will have their canoes at the camping trip next weekend. Scouts and adults that have not passed the swim test MUST be in a boat with someone that has passed the test. There are no exceptions to this rule. We have a few adults camping which have passed the test so I do not foresee us having any issues when it comes to canoeing.

I wanted to pass along the information in the event that you wanted to take the test.

Make Up Swim Test Monday, May 12 @ 7pm at the Bethlehem YMCA

We will NOT offer swimming MB that night. I can guest pass people in who are not YMCA members.

FAQ:

Q: I took the swim test before, do I need to take it again? A: The scout swim test is only good for a year so if you took it before May 2024, you need to take it again.

Q: What happens if I (scout OR adult) don’t take the swim test? Am I not allowed to go near the water? A: You can go out in a canoe or kayak with an adult who has passed the swim test.

Q: I couldn’t make last Sunday or this Monday… what else can be offered so I can boat at Thompson Lake? A: You can go to any lifeguard or swim instructor and have them fill out the attached form for you.

Q: I am a lifeguard, do I need to take the swim test? A: If you certified in the past year - you do not need to take the swim test. Just let me know if you certified in the past year so I can update the troop’s records. If you certified more than a year ago, you need to take the swim test.

Scouts and adults from Pack 232 can attend too… please have someone bring a roster so these results can be recorded.
