Frontier Challenge Spring Camporee 2024 Scout Program Scouts will go to events to experience the life and skills of Lumberjacks and Fur Trade trappers. Half the day will be spent completing the Paul Bunyan Award . The award covers the Totin Chip, advanced wood tools, and completing a conservation project. Scouts will review Totin Chip , but will spend most of their time on Wood Tools safety. Unit leaders may want to use this opportunity to review pocketknife safety prior to the event, so Scouts are familiar. Most conservation project work will involve clearing trails and winter-downed trees. This will primarily involve using Loppers to prune branches and small trees, and dragging brush off of trails and fields. If half of all Scouts from a unit brings their own Loppers, they will make an awesome team. Work gloves and hiking boots are appropriate. A bow-saw, if available, may also help the projects. Please, no axes or powered equipment. Half the day will be spent learning from experts about the Fur Trade. They will learn from a presenter and will complete several patrol based activities.
